Largely amateur footage of Merton and Morden Auxiliary Fire Service filmed during 1941. The AFS was part of the Civil Defence Service, and was formed in 1938 to work alongside the regular fire brigades. Members were all volunteers. The film shows training exercises and incidents, including footage of the London Blitz. Firefighters from all over the south east of the UK were drafted into London at this time. Merton & Morden are now an outer London Borough, but at this time they were in the County of Surrey.
